- Why do you have additional costs separate from the main quote? These are items that are either optional or charged by a third-party.
- Why don’t you include the third-party items in the main quote? Because we’ll be setting you up with an account directly with that third-party and provide you with those login details. That way, you own your website 100%, and if we win the lottery and move to a private island in the Bahamas, you will still have access to your website.
- Domain name registration. This is the purchase of your URL (www.website.com).
- Website host. This is where the files that make up your website will live.
- SSL certificate. This is a security protocol highly recommended by Google. If you do not have one installed, many browsers will show a warning about the security of your website. You will need to reinstall your SSL certificate annually. The installation typically takes an hour or less to complete.
- WordPress Theme. This provides the “bones” of your website that will be customized to fit your needs and your brand. You will need to buy a theme unless you have an existing theme we will work with. It is important that the theme registration is in your name for updates.
- Plugins. We may recommend plugins for your site that add functionality to your site. Many plugins are free. Some are a flat fee. And others are annual or monthly.
- Email hosting. This is where your email messages and associated files are stored. This is needed if you want an email address at your domain name (i.e., name@yourwebsite.com).
- Email setup. This is the fee if you’d like our help with email setup.
- Shopping Cart Setup. This is the fee if your website needs a shopping cart.

Optional Monthly Maintenance
- What is monthly maintenance? To keep your website secure and loading quickly after launch, on a monthly or biweekly basis, you should confirm automatic backups are running properly and update WordPress, your theme, and your plugins. You can handle this yourself — even if you’re not a website designer or tech whiz (see below). Or we can do this for you for $55/month. For this monthly fee, we’ll run these updates biweekly, keep an eye out for potential issues that may arise on your site, check blog comments if needed, and can make small text changes at no additional cost to you.
- Handling monthly maintenance yourself. It may sound intimidating, but it’s really not hard to learn how to backup and update your site. If you can create a Word document, for example, you likely have the necessary skill set. You just need to click a few buttons in a few places and wait patiently while WordPress works. We will provide you with step-by-step instructions and be available for any questions if you choose to go this route. And you can always switch to having us handle it for you if you prefer.
- Are there any other potential costs I may have after the site launches? You will also need to update the SSL certificate annually. If we are handling monthly maintenance, we can handle that for you at no additional charge. Otherwise, it takes an hour or less to complete. And you will need to continue to pay your web host, domain registrar, and email host if applicable.
- After launch. We recommend setting a quarterly appointment on your work calendar to pop onto your website to see if any updates are needed because of business changes — such as contact information and product offers.
